Good evening peeps. How annoying is it that, now it's getting cold again, (it's TOTALLY getting cold in Scotland. I've officially moved into old-lady's-ville and am now bringing a hottie to bed regularly. And I don't mean Mr Scribbler. He is hot though) it takes freakin' ages for the washing to dry? What a pain in my ass. And what a second dose of old lady in my opening sentences. Should I be worried? I don't think so. Some survey fella in the street yesterday reckoned I was an 18-24 box ticker. I'm not :( I'm only the next one up though and not by much at that. Therefore, I solemnly swear to try to drop any further old lady chat from this post.
So what's got me chatting today? Well, I arrived home to the sight of something lying on the mat outside. It was my November Marie-Claire (November!? That means it's nearly time for me to add a notch to the birthday post!). And, in honour/promotion of Glee being back in America and back soon (please) in the UK, they've given the cover to Lea Michele. Now you may or may not know that Lea was fast becoming my little fashion crush with all her pretty red carpet dress and her cute style and then, poof! As fast as it had begun, it ended, with Lea sporting one icky dress after a-fugly-nother. Sad times people, sad times. However, I'm pleased to see that she is back to foxy fine. Don't get me wrong - it's by no means the awesomest dress ever seen (come on, it's by the King of Tack - Roberto Cavalli. Oh yes I did.) and I daresay that, full length, could even be frumpy. But the top half is flattering and elegant and the beading and sequin detail is sufficiently intricate to impress me. Plus the colouring really suits her skin tone and hair. So Lea - here's what the thing is. This is an improvement. BUT, if you're hoping to get a Little-Scribbler lady crush mention, you're gonna have to keep upping the game. Go forth and conquer!
FYI, liking the cover DOES not mean I'm going to continue my Marie Claire subscription. Can I be brutal? It's getting really kind of shit so, if you're thinking about subscribing to it, I'd recommend that you don't bother. Plus, subscribers don't get the cover gifts (yup, there's the crux for the stingy Scot!), even though their subscriber's edition with it's alternate cover, still chats on about the non existent freebie throughout! Don't take my loyalty for granted Marie Claire!

Em(my), what were they thinking
So I settled down with a nice cup of Earl Grey for a look through the Emmy pictures. And I was distinctly underwhelmed. What a lot of so-so garb! Don't get me wrong, there were some alright dresses but nothing, NOTHING wow. Come on telly and film people - your job is to entertain!
One thing that did strike me was the awful-tastic Glee fashion misses (maybe that's why they withheld the awards...there can be no other reason cos Glee's awesome!). Ordinarily, I love a bit of Glee fashion (and in fairness Jenna Ushkowitz and Amber Riley's dresses were ok and the boys scrubbed up nicely) and Lea Michele is normally one of my absolute red carpet favourites. But at the Emmys, it was not to be so. Regard:
It makes her waist look tiny and she has a winning smile. And that's all I like. The fringe looks wonky, the necklace is old lady frumpy, the dress is SO shiny (in a 'get that lit match away from me' sorta way) and all that frilly crap at the bottom reminds me of those flamenco dolls other people got as gifts when their parents had been in Spain. I SO wanted one of those dolls. Maybe I'm just bitter. Love you Lea, do NOT love this look. Want a flamenco doll.
However, Lea is the better of this bad bunch. Turn your attention now, if you will, to Naya Rivera (that's one cracking name though):
Gay God. Gay god of shiny prossie fashion. This is a serious case of 'my eyes, my eyes!'. Because mine are close to bleeding after absorbing this ensemble. The gi-heusterous fake hair looking bun. The greasy looking wonky fringe. The SHINY (again - what's with that? Show me a spark and I'll show you a bonfire.) dress with vile poufy skirt and overly high split (the girl has cracking legs actually and on a different dress, a split this high might be acceptable). The fugly brooch. This dress says one thing to me: slutty bridesmaid. Next time, wear the cheerleader uniform...
And (almost) finally. Another alumni of the fashion 'do' column usually, Diana Agron has foofed it up this time.
Three words: Toilet Roll Holder. Aw but her hair and face look gorgeous!
And last but not least...Puck. Looking fiiiiiiiine as ever, but, dude, what's with the shiny suit?
After all that critique I'm going to go think sunny thoughts and pet a kitten or something.

Full of Glee!
Did you hear about the Glee event they staged in LA? Why does all the fun stuff happen in America? Except when you're there and want to do the fun stuff (my friend went on honeymoon and could we get her tickets for either Cher or Lionel Ritchie? Could we buggery! Cher did Vegas before and after my pal was there. Rude).
So the Glee thing got me thinking about one of my recent favourite style crushes, Lea Michele. A million style miles away from frumpy Rachel, her Glee character, Lea usually nails red carpet dressing in a fresh and youthful way. However, I have a bit of a half and half feeling about her most recent sartorial offering. The colour's good on her and, naff though it could be, I love the gold (it reminds me of an AMAZING Viv Westwood Anglomania dress that I never could afford *sob*). I love the asymmetry of the top and the fact that it feels light and flirty. But, it then goes wrong. I do not like the length and I hate, hate, hate an asymmetric or jagged hem. The whole thing is just a bit jaggy and messy looking and feels like it needs nipping in. So that's my opinion...
By contrast, here's why I first fell for Lea. Look at those legs, that waist! This dress is a flatterer! She's gone asymmetric again with a gorgeous Grecian feel but, instead of flowing Grecian drapery the poufy feathered skirt adds volume and curves giving an amazing hourglass shape. Chic navy paired with simple black pumps, this look is youthful with an edge. I love it!
ps - Puck? You SO would!
